My Ambition

. . . is to live a modest, but happy life.  I've made plenty of sacrifices in my life so far, and I hope that those sacrifices will one day result in having enough time to enjoy my children grow up and enjoy the little things in life.

Confessions of a Poker-Pro Wannabe

I am a professional poker player (aka another casino rat scratching out a living at the felt).  My theory: I'm a poker meteoroid that upon entering the poker world will either become a meteorite that will hit big and make a lasting impact -or- a meteor that shines for a brief moment before fizzling out completely – but no matter what, I will live with the satisfaction that I tried.

Of course, trying to make a living playing poker and not having much of a bankroll to speak of in the middle of the US financial crisis isn’t exactly one of the best ways to support a family, but it wasn't really my decision to make - - it was made for me when I was laid-off in October 2009 after being a paralegal for over 20 years.  But, in reflecting on my life so far – I’d have to say I’m a pretty determined person – and well, based on what is happening in the world today, I kind of like the odds of a coin flip.

I believe I've got game, and with the support of my friends and family - I know I can do this.  I know that I've got a lot of room to grow as a poker player and I know I could benefit from some good mentoring.  But, I trust in my instincts and, while my game has lots of room for improvement, I know that if I get into a hand that I can't figure out - I can always revert back to good ol' ABC poker for help in my decisions.  I may not be pulling down big pots with every hand I play, but I am very patient and have absolutely no reservations about peeling off chips a little at a time until I have them all.

In sum, I’m either valiantly ambitious – or – I need to have my head examined.  Let’s hope that the future proves the former, rather than the latter, true.

In addition to playing poker, I am also a poker writer.  In the world of poker, women are the minority.  In the world of the poker writers, all of the female writers worldwide amount to just a small handful of the demographic.  I aspire to be one of the lucky few to achieve success on both sides of the rail.
